Automating Emailed Reports
Arguably the easiest method for getting data into Scoop is using email. Email is universal, it is widely supported as an automated reporting option by a large number of applications, and it is super simple to use. If your application does support the automated emailing of reports, then you can simply auto-forward that report to Scoop as described below and Scoop will handle the rest. One could argue that this is the simplest application integration ever.
To begin, you setup a new dataset with an email inbox in Scoop. Select Data Email from the dialog after pressing the New Dataset button in the datasets page. A simple to-do list then pops up letting you know what is needed.
After you select the usual options of transactional or snapshot, you can simply name your dataset and click on the create dataset button. Please make sure you copy and keep the generated email address. You can always look that up later by clicking on the config button on the page for the dataset when you select it, but this is the email address you will use to forward your report.
What should your email look like?
Reports can be either attachments to your email, which is most common, or possibly within the body of the email itself. Scoop will open your email and examine all attachments. If it does not find useful tabular data in the attachments, then it will examine the email body as well. Attachments support any of the same file types supported in file upload: delimited (csv, txt, etc.), HTML, spreadsheet (xlsx) and zip files.
